Our lower elementary school program is for children in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Lower elementary school grades include kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. After that, they will attend our upper elementary school, which goes through the 5th grade. 2. What is a typical day at Yorkshire Academy Like?
Every day offers different learning opportunities, but we do provide a consistent experience for your children to learn and thrive. During the week, your child will have many educational and enrichment opportunities to combine learning and fun. They’ll enjoy a safe, secure, and challenging environment with a low teacher-to-student ratio. Students will learn in multiple environments, including our outdoor learning center, and will participate in our accelerated academic curriculum as well as engaging in music, art, Spanish, computer technology, library, Social Emotional Learning, and physical education. Our special events include field trips, academic competitions, our big spring musical, youth Olympics, and our Thanksgiving and Christmas plays, just to name a few.
3. Will my student be challenged academically?
Yes, they will. Lower elementary school age is the right time to challenge students a little more, so they’ll succeed in upper elementary, high school, college, and their careers. While your student will be challenged, we also strive to make learning lively through events like the PSIA Academic Competition, Polar Express/PJ Day/ math night, 100 Day Dress-Up Celebration, and a science fair. Children will develop a strong basis in the foundations of science, math, language, and more. We welcome and encourage parental involvement and have parent/teacher conferences three times a year so that you can meet with your child’s teachers face-to-face to discuss their progress. We also keep you informed with weekly and monthly updates. Students will also have plenty of opportunities to develop and showcase their skills and talents with events such as our annual spring musical, holiday shows, field day, and talent show.
