Yorkshire Academy’s early childhood education program has attracted families from Houston, TX, and all over the world for more than 37 years. It’s a proven fact that getting an early start is key to your child’s educational success. We’ve prepared some answers to your most frequently asked questions about early childhood education, so keep reading and be sure to contact us if you have any questions that remain unanswered.

1. What Is the appropriate age for my child to begin learning?

Children in our Cottage/Early Learning education programs are as young as 18 months and as old as three years. These are the most important years for your children to develop skills that they’ll use throughout their lifetimes. After they age out of the early childhood education program, we have a number of other programs for students through the 5th grade.

2. What happens during my child’s typical day?

We pride ourselves on making sure your child will be exposed to numerous educational and enrichment opportunities throughout each week. We believe that fun and learning go hand-in-hand. Kids need to play, and we embrace that idea. Enrichment opportunities are ways to have fun and learn at the same time. Your children will also develop other important skills through social interactions with teachers and other children. They’ll form friendships that often last through adulthood. We also have special events throughout the year to keep things fresh, fun, and exciting.

3. Parent/Teacher communication

We encourage the parents or guardians of our students to start with a tour of our academy to see where your child will be spending their days. We also have three parent/teacher conferences throughout the year. We communicate with you and keep you informed with daily and monthly highlights. We feel children have the best educational experiences when their teachers and parents communicate often.

4. Will my child be challenged academically?

Yes, your child will be challenged, but we won’t push them too hard. Being challenged academically is important through every stage of child development, but children this young shouldn’t be pushed beyond their limitations. We mix educational and enrichment opportunities, so your children will look forward to coming to Yorkshire Academy and associate our school with being a fun place to spend their day. In many cases, they’ll be learning a lot without even realizing it!

5. What type of curriculum do you use?

Here at Yorkshire Academy in Houston, TX, we take our Cottage/Early Learning curriculum seriously. We know that this may be the first school experience your child has, and our curriculum is based on the latest scientific early-brain research focusing on the joy of childhood. We focus on safety and a nurturing and loving environment for children to learn their best.
