Literature Circles

5th Grade Literature Circles students

Towards the end of the school year, Treichel Fine Arts Centre is filled with families listening in amazement to a student lead analysis and discussion of their class novels. Yorkshire Academy students are fortunate to have access to class sets of novels that comprise a wide variety of literature of different countries and cultures. Fourth and fifth grade students engage in a cooperative, social setting, which encourages confidence in making evaluations in a safe environment.

Though initially introduced as a teaching strategy for elementary school, literature circle discussions are occurring more frequently in a wide range of settings, from elementary to university classrooms. Our students are well prepared for many future discussions.
