Hitting All the Right Notes at Yorkshire Academy
Music plays a significant role in the education of each Yorkshire Academy student. Key elements of our Music Enrichment Program include exposure to classical songs of great composers, learning rhythmic instruments in lower elementary, and excelling at the tone chimes in upper elementary. But, the most important (and exciting!) aspects of our program are performances, and we have lots of them! All Yorkshire students have the chance to participate in multiple productions each year. Learn more about what makes our Music Enrichment Program stand out.
Fall performances include an all-elementary patriotic musical, a lower elementary Thanksgiving play, a pre-K holiday show, a Kindergarten Christmas show, and an upper elementary Nutcracker performance.
A Wealth of Performance Opportunities
Yorkshire students have no shortage of opportunities to show off their performance chops! Each year, we put on multiple productions to celebrate holidays, mark the changing seasons, or just to have some fun. Here are a few examples of performances your child might participate in school calendar:
- Fall Events: During the fall, students of all levels participate in a variety of performances. All of our students from preschool—5th grade put on holiday shows, including our Upper Elementary’s ‘famous’ Nutcracker Performance. And don’t forget our all-elementary patriotic musical!
- Spring Showcases: As spring begins, Yorkshire students start work on several productions. Mark your calendars for Buckaroo Breakfast songs, Mother’s Day Tea, talent shows, and our big elementary musical.
What to Expect from Music Classes
Our music classes are designed to be comprehensive and engaging for children of all ages. If your child is involved in one of our productions, they’ll have scheduled rehearsal times throughout the week. But rehearsal isn’t the only way students come to appreciate music. Interspersed between rehearsals, your child may study an opera or two, learn about folk and country music, and play a catalog of Kodaly games that teach rhythm, patterns, notation, and solfege. Yorkshire Academy's private elementary school music classes cover all the bases!
Why Music Education Is Paramount
Countless hours, lots of energy, and endless talent go into our productions, and every bit is worth it. Students not only learn about music, teamwork, and the importance of practice, but they learn about themselves. Every year we hear comments such as, “I had no idea my child could sing” or “He’s so quiet at home.” Parents are as surprised as students as their talents are revealed. Music education offers the following benefits:
- Improved ability to memorize
- Time management
- Opportunities for creativity
- Increased self-confidence and self-esteem
