Curriculum

The MDO program is often a child’s first school experience. Frog Street Toddler—Nurturing Curiosity through Exploration is designed around the latest scientific early brain research and focuses on enhancing the simple joy of childhood. Our main focus is providing a safe and loving environment conducive to learning. A student/teacher ratio of 2:8 for 18 months-two and a half year olds, and 2:10 student/teacher ratio for almost three year-olds is mandated to allow for individual instruction and attention. Yorkshire Academy feels very strongly that the development of positive self-esteem is the foundation of a successful school experience. Therefore, in these early years we emphasize students’ development of social and self-help skills and positive self-esteem. We also focus on gross and fine motor development.

Students explore math, language arts, social studies, and science concepts through the use of manipulatives, experimentation, storytelling, creative dramatics, and play. Language development is key at this age. Music and art are integrated in the curriculum throughout each day. Teachers track student progress and communicate this progress with parents and/or guardians. For additional enrichment, the children are also included when guest speakers like Mother Goose, a policeman, a fire department, or a puppeteer come to the school.

Parents stay informed through a monthly “What’s Happening Calendar” and daily “Twinkle-Gram.”

School Hours

  • Arrival 8:45–9:00 a.m. with class beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  • Students not attending MId-Day Stay (12:00–2:30 p.m.) are escorted to the Memorial drive-thru for 12:00 p.m. pick up.
  • Mid-Day Stay students are to be picked up at the Memorial drive-thru between 2:30–2:45 p.m.
